Personal History Cassandra was born in Chicago to an El-Aurian refugee family that had settled on Earth. While her parents and older siblings still adhere to many traditional El-Aurian customs, like the robes and headdresses, Cassandra and her twin brother and younger sister are more immersed in Terran (American) culture. This led to some friction within the family, with Cassandra and her brother rebelling a bit. They got into some minor trouble with the law.

Upon graduating high school, Cassandra went to the University of Chicago to study engineering. While she had a natural talent for it, she preferred the social scene to studying, and her grades reflected poorly, even when she knew the matariel. She dropped out her senior year

Cassandra and her brother started running the gambling circuit. Her abilities let her predict cards, dice, roulette, and other games of chance, and her ability to read people and superior poker face made her a natural. She also ran confidence scams with her brother. When things got too hot, they would move on to elsewhere in the galaxy, often hobo tramping in transports around the quadrants. Cassandra also liked to streetrace and space race, having a natural talent for piloting due to her precognitive abilities.

Eventually Cassandra cheated the wrong person at domjat and she got in trouble with the Syndicate. To keep their skins, the siblings agreed to a long con on a wealthy businessman. The con went sideways, however, and the siblings eventually had to flee from both the law and the Syndicate. Both entities eventually caught up, and they decided it would be better to fall into the hands of the Federation Marshals than the Syndicate.

At trial, Nyvin played up his part in the con and played down Cassandra’s, implying she only did it because he made her. Cass batted her eyes and played the innocent and the judge gave her leniency. Nyvin went to a Federation Penal Colony and she was given a choice: join her brother or join Starfleet. The judge hoped it would do the young woman some good.

Cassandra enlisted in Starfleet as an engineer, working in both engineering and operations. To her surprise, she found that she enjoyed it. Oh, the regimentation and rules were annoying, but she enjoyed working on the most advanced technology, the self-defense lessons, and the ability to hop around the quadrants without the law after her. She did have a few disciplinary marks on her record, as she was prone to enjoy any shore leave as hedonistically as possible and was prone to stretching the allowance to the last millisecond.

Cassandra decided she wanted to make Starfleet a career. She convinced her captain to sponsor her for the Officer Candidate School at the Academy, and after passing the year long course, she became an Operations officer on the USS Winchester.

During the Dominion War, the USS Winchester under Captain Artemis Pierce was a Starfleet Intelligence ship. She was involved in covert operations liquidating persons suspected of being changelings, and other duties most in the Federation or Starfleet wouldn’t approve. Unknown to her, the project had affiliations with Section 31.

During the war, Cassandra was approached by the Chief Intelligence Officer of the Winchester, Natalya Dubrovna. She said Starfleet Intelligence was keeping an eye on an up and coming Ferengi arms dealer named Dys that was carving out a name for himself in the chaos of the war. They wanted someone on the inside to keep an eye on his organization and make sure he dealt with the Federation and not their enemies. Cassandra agreed to go into deep cover.

In the Dys organization, Cassandra worked her way up to become the personal pilot of Daimon Dys, feeding information back to her handlers. And then the war ended and her handlers went silent. Unknown to Cassandra, the black ops operation aboard the Winchester had been shut down, Artemis Pierce had been dishonorably discharged from Starfleet, barely avoiding prison, and Natalya Dubrovna saved her own career by cutting all ties. Cassandra was left adrift.

Knowing she was in a dangerous position, Cassandra scrambled to keep herself safe. She “went native,” fully embracing her life in the criminal underworld. To avoid suspicion, she cultivated a relationship with Dys’ Betazoid major domo that eventually turned intimate. She did whatever nefarious deed Dys asked of her. Eventually she even gave up trying to contact anyone in Starfleet. Her life was on the line.

Twenty years Cassandra was under deep cover. Then came the day when Starfleet came for Daimon Dys. A strike team from the USS Nemesis, under the command of the reinstated Captain Artemis Pierce, captured Dys and many of his lieutenants, including Cassandra. Pierce was shocked to learn she was still alive. Needless to say, Cassandra was less than a fan of the man.

But it was Artemis Pierce who somehow arranged Cassandra’s rehabilitation, her criminal record expunged and given full amnesty. He even garnered her an open ended reinstatement into Starfleet if she desired it.

Cassandra took a few years to recover from her ordeal and reevaluate her life. The life of crime held a certain excitement for her, but she also found herself yearning to reclaim her life in Starfleet. After a six month refresher course at the Academy, she returned to active duty and was stationed aboard the USS Artemis.
